I got the hoof savers for a mare that was recovering from an abscess. She had to wear a boot continuously for about a month. It did control the odor and I didn't have any trouble with thrush. It was quite wet and I had no way of keeping her foot dry inside the boot.
The hoof savers come in sets of two. Since I only needed one for my mare I kept the other for myself. I had just been kicked in the leg a few days before the pads arrived in the mail. I used the pad on my sore leg and found it brought a lot of relief. Now I sleep on it every night. It really helps control what's unfortunately turning out to be chronic back pain.
The pads are expensive but they hold up well and as far as I can tell don't wear out.
